Exploratory Data Analysis - Retail

Task : 

• Performing Exploratory Data Analysis on a Retail Company's 'Sample Superstore' dataset.

• The tool used is Tableau.

• Creating different visualizations to analyze the dataset, its trends and statistics and further creating Dashboard to showcase and compare the sales and profit depending on various different aspects.

• Using this insights from the data, creating a Storyboard to showcase the areas for improvement in order to increase the company's Sales and Profit.

Sharing a glimpse of my dashboard / storyboard through a small video to showcase some of the insights drawn from analyzing this dataset.

Insights / Conclusion :

• As California and New York are states with max profit and sales, More focus on these states to gain more profit. Sub-category 'Tables' and Segment - 'Corporate' in East and 'Home Office' in West are the main areas of concern as they are giving back least profit.

• Central region in spite of having enough amount of sales, is giving least profit. The states with less amount of sales are giving more profit in this region. Increase sales for states like Michigan and Indiana where profit is more and instead reduce sales for Texas where profit is less.

• Tables Sub-category from Furniture category gives least total profit, where in its sales amount is still high. Reduce the sales for Tables as the profit coming back from this is not enough.

• Region's sales and discounts shows that Central region has enough sales amount but still least profit, because its discount % is more. Reduce discount value in Central region to boost up its sales and rather increase a bit of discount in South region to scale up its sales, in order to attract potential buyers.

• Category's sales and profit shows that 'Office Supplies' category is making good profit but still has least sales amount. Increase sales in this category to get back more profit from this. To do so, Southern region can be focused as it has least Sales in this category. 

• Most for the sales and profit % is from Standard class ship mode, so we can continue to focus more on this in order to get more profit.

• Profit and Sales is most in 'Technology' Category, but still we have least quantity of products out there. Increase the quantity of products for this category to extract the max profit out of it as its sales is also high.
